As a community of 38 adults & 22 children, we are dedicated to knowing each other in a meaningful way. We privately own our homes, consisting of single family and townhomes which are clustered around a common green with a playground and yurt, which serves as our common gathering space. Most of our parking is on the periphery of our neighborhood. We share 115 acres of rolling farmland, wetlands, meadows, brooks, woods, hiking paths, and ponds, some of which are preserved indefinitely for wildlife corridors and farming. We can cross country ski right out the back door of our homes. A hike up Mt. Philo is just a walk away while a sail or swim
in Lake Champlain is an easy bike ride.
Our land lies in the rural village of Charlotte, Vermont. We are 14 miles from Burlington, which has a lively downtown pedestrian mall, several colleges, the University of Vermont, a regional teaching hospital, and an international airport. Middlebury, a charming college town, is an easy 30-minute commute south. Montreal is a two-hour drive north. Lake Champlain, in all it’s beauty is 2 miles from our home.
We have frequent gatherings - both planned and spontaneous - with potlucks, games, music, etc. We use sociocracy (dynamic governance) to make decisions about our annual budget, policies we want to live by, and selections of leaders. We work together to keep our community beautiful and property management costs low. We strive to live in a thoughtful way that promotes environmental sustainability and healthy community
relationships.
