Description

Village Hearth Cohousing is an LGBTQ+ focused 55+ cohousing community located in progressive and culturally vibrant Durham, NC. The community opened in 2020, with 28 colorful cottage-style homes on a 15 acre wooded property, 20 minutes from downtown restaurants and theater. Homes are all single level and accessible, designed for aging in place. We have a weekly community meal (cooked by our rotating squads), teams to manage all aspects of running the community, and plenty of social activities and group outings.

Our members are committed to neighborly mutual support and bring a wide variety of skills and interests to share. We are LGBTQ and straight, coupled and single, still working and retired. Our unique focus means we attract members from all across North America - our members moved here from New England, California, Florida, and points in between. We enjoy eating the food grown in our community garden; hiking, bicycling and kayaking at the many nearby natural areas; yoga, meditation and exercise classes in our common house; holding social justice workshops and concerts in the great room; celebrating holidays and special occasions (big and small) together; and enjoying each other’s company on our spacious front porches and in the Common House.
